An organization with a mission

Community Housing Development Corporation was founded on May 31, 1990, and became operational in 1992. In order to help people with low to moderate incomes obtain better housing and financial stability in the Bay Area, CHDC offers a wide range of affordable housing opportunities and services. Our distinctive approach to community development guarantees that the neighborhood as a whole benefit from the affordable housing and local services offered by involving residents at the grassroots level.

In 2005, CHDC earned many awards. Such as the US Department of Housing & Urban Development Certificate of Recognition, Internal Revenue Service for the Earn It! Keep It! Save It! Cash For College Partnership easing the financial aid process for low-income college applicants, Eden Housing, for Fifteen Years of Valuable Contributions including Chesley Mutual Housing, Community Heritage Senior Housing and North Richmond Commercial Center, City of Richmond for Fifteen Years of Service, Richmond Neighborhood Housing Services Award to Donald Gilmore, CHDC Executive Director, for Steadfast Leadership in Affordable Housing and Community Development, Internal Revenue Service VITA Partnership Award, and LeaderSpring Mentor Award.

In 2025, CHDC will continue to strengthen and enhance its popular clean driving initiative. In 2024 DCAP opened in 12 different counties across California. In 2025 plans to open our popular clean driving initiative in more counties across California. Construction is underway in North Richmond with our latest development called Legacy Court. Legacy Court has been under development for 20 years.
